Equipment Review: Decathlon SPF 900 Wetsuit
This new wetsuit from Decathlon is superb. Not only is of a high quality but it is also very comfortable. Some noteworthy details:
- Open-Cell neoprene inside ensures warmth.
- Stretchy and flexible lining on the outside means that it is both resistant to damage while retaining comfort. The lower part of the torso is also lined inside, allowing a good grip for getting into/out of the jacket without the risk of tearing.
The inside of the hood has lining over the ears, to reduce the risk of it sealing against the ear canal (which can inhibit equalisation.)
A loading pad on the chest is included for spearfishing use but the suit is perfectly suited to freediving, due to its comfort and flexibility.
The inclusion of a whistle (in a small pocket on the sleeve) is a good idea- the whistle is attached and within easy reach.
The cost:value ratio is good. All materials are of the highest quality and, of course, it is backed-up by the Decathlon reputation and Warranty.
All-in-all, I am very happy with these suits. I bought them for my students to use when training with me and their feedback was entirely positive. As with all unlined suits, a little practice - and lubricant- is needed to get the suit on, but this is a very minor inconvenienceand is common to all open-cell suits.
