Equipment Review: Decathlon SPF 900 Wetsuit

This new wetsuit from Decathlon is superb. Not only is of a high quality but it is also very comfortable. Some noteworthy details:

- Open-Cell neoprene inside ensures warmth.

- Stretchy and flexible lining on the outside means that it is both resistant to damage while retaining comfort. The lower part of the torso is also lined inside, allowing a good grip for getting into/out of the jacket without the risk of tearing.

  • The inside of the hood has lining over the ears, to reduce the risk of it sealing against the ear canal (which can inhibit equalisation.)

  • A loading pad on the chest is included for spearfishing use but the suit is perfectly suited to freediving, due to its comfort and flexibility.

  • The inclusion of a whistle (in a small pocket on the sleeve) is a good idea- the whistle is attached and within easy reach.

  • The cost:value ratio is good. All materials are of the highest quality and, of course, it is backed-up by the Decathlon reputation and Warranty.

All-in-all, I am very happy with these suits. I bought them for my students to use when training with me and their feedback was entirely positive. As with all unlined suits, a little practice - and lubricant- is needed to get the suit on, but this is a very minor inconvenienceand is common to all open-cell suits.
